Finally! A Children's Book for When Things Kind of Suck

On tomorrow's episode of The Momma Cusses Podcast, we chat with author Janet Lawless Christ about her debut children's book, Nugget the Nomad. And to celebrate reaching 25k on Instagram we are giving away a copy!

From JoyWorks Publishing, with a relatable and reassuring message for children, the book is based on a true story about author Janet Lawless Christ’s rescue dog. Nugget loves going to yoga class and hanging out with his Human Mama. But one day he gets into a kerfuffle with one of his doggie brothers and gets into a bad and sad and scary situation. Find joy with Nugget in this endearing romp as he explores life away from his family and eventually returns to his home sweet home and yoga class with his Human Mama. “Nugget was happy! Human Mama was happy. And everyone he met was happy, too.” Joy works when... you go with the flow.

“I wrote Nugget the Nomad after I broke my back while trying to separate my dogs during an altercation between them,” said Christ. “Bad, sad and scary things happen in everyone’s life, including the lives of children, but if we get children to talk about the bad and help them find and hold onto the littlest nugget of joy, they can begin to find healing. It’s remarkable that we presold hundreds of books and now, less than a month after its release we’re up to thousands of books sold with requests from pro athletes, motivational speakers, educators, and others. It speaks to a hurting nation with youth who need comforting.”

Nugget the Nomad tells the story of Nugget, a dog who is fostered by family friends after his owner hurts her back trying to break up an altercation between Nugget and his brother Eddie. This is the first book by Christ in a series of stories of human life, strife, and dilemmas and how to find ways to thrive and survive those struggles as seen through the eyes of sentient animal characters, including pet dogs, bees, butterflies, earthworms, chickens, goats, homing pigeons, etc.

Nugget The Nomad was written by Christ and illustrated by Ryan Hernandez. The Nugget collection includes Nugget the Nomad: Adventures of a Yoga Dog book, yoga mat, adult and children’s face mask, and stickers. A portion of the proceeds will go to Thrive Animal Rescue. In the first five days of the book’s release, well over 1,000 copies sold, with more than 2,150 sold to date. Downloadable lesson plans for K-3 grades are being developed for at-home learning and will soon be available.
